Current Research Studies

The purpose of these studies is to determine the safety and effectiveness of an investigational drug that combines aspirin and a second medication to see if it can help prevent stomach ulcers. The second medication is already approved for use alone to prevent ulcers. These research studies may help determine whether the investigational combination of the two approved medications may provide long-term effective use of aspirin with a reduced risk of stomach ulcers for others in the future.

STUDY REQUIREMENTS

You may qualify to participate if you:

• Have taken 325mg of aspirin daily for at least three months and are expected to use daily aspirin for at least six months AND ARE EITHER:
• Age 18-54 with a documented history of ulcers within the past five years OR
• Over age 55 with or without a history of ulcers

Daily aspirin is defined as at least five times per week. Aspirin use should be for the secondary prevention of heart attack or stroke.

If you qualify, you will receive all study-related medical care and diagnostic testing at no cost. You may also be compensated for your time and travel.

If you qualify to participate, you will take the oral study medicine each morning on an empty stomach — eating one hour after taking the study medication. Over the course of the studies (either six months or one year, depending on which study you qualify for), you will attend a total of four study visits with your research study team.

At each study visit, your health will be assessed. At various study visits, the research team may use an endoscope to examine your stomach for ulcers depending on which study you are enrolled in. Your research study team will also contact you once per month by telephone to ask if you have experienced any side effects of the study medication.
